The Superarte Association proudly presents the Superarte Cloud Forest Project in Costa Rica.
The cloud forest is one of the lungs of the planet preserving for future generations. The fauna and flora here present us with a marvelous natural spectacle, located 1400m above sea level the cloud forest provides the opportunity to closely admirer the perfection of nature, breathe pure air, meditate, reflect…far from the polluted environment of the large cities.
The overwhelming noise, rush hour traffic, frantic pace of city residents, the stress and routine of city life are left behind. Nature here enwraps us in the implacable, almost subliminal sound of pure air running free through the trees of the forest, all synchronized with the calling of the most beautiful variety of birds and the sounds of monkeys and insects; providing us with the sensation of being in the middle of a concert of life, life that breathes life… life that gives us life… “pura vida”…
But what would the forest tell us if the trees could talk???...
What would the calling of the birds tell us, if that calling were like a secret code to be revealed???...
What makes us think, as human beings, that our big cities with our tall buildings and wide streets are priorities over our magnificent forests and its magnificent habitants???...
Human arrogance and ignorance have caused most of our environment’s destruction at a global scale…

The Superarte Team has already started The Costa Rica Cloud Forest Project in the communities of Monteverde and Santa Elena. We have joined efforts with the department of Environmental Education, at the Cloud Forest School in Monteverde and the department of ecological tourism at the Instituto Tecnico Profesional in Santa Elena. Currently there are Superarte workshops for both schools.

One of the project’s main objectives is to create an institutional link between the schools in the area and the community. Thus to socially, culturally, economically, and environmentally benefit the community, the students and the institutions involved.

Foto 250.jpgThe Superarte Costa Rica Cloud Forest project is creating workshops to provide the youth in the communities of Monteverde and Santa Elena with a space for artistic expression, recreational activity and a therapeutic outlet. The students are given an opportunity to be creative and learn social, cultural and environmental skills and values that are necessary to be contributing members of a more integrated, fair and progressive modern society. The participants will also learn critical skills and strategies for creating a small business, through the organization of expositions and sales of their art. The students will learn art techniques in addition to social, business and life skills that will assist in decreasing their lack of cultural outlet and economic burdens.

The Superarte team is creating, most importantly, social awareness regarding the social challenges our youth in the community are facing: lack of stimulating recreational activities, absence of social responsibility, alcohol and drug use, etc. In addition to that, it will offer solutions to some environmental issues that are present in the community. For example, the students are decreasing the amount of waste and refuse in the community by using recycled material to create objects of art.

The project tries to build a stronger and more unified community. The Superarte Costa Rica Cloud Forest team has begun creating a web of schools, local businesses and community members with a strong sense of collectiveness and social responsibility; who are eager to participate in this project therefore maximizing the human potential.Foto 233.jpg

Together with the community’s involvement, the Superarte team is organizing art expositions at local stores and art galleries in Monteverde and Santa Elena. The art expositions will reward the students’ hard work and provide the students with a sense of accomplishment and success. The students will have the opportunity to present and sell their art and show their potential as artists and responsible members of the community, they will also have the chance to demonstrate to the local community the numerous possibilities of working with the youth and the benefits of recycled materials.
